ACRO – a routine demonstrating dance technique with a flair for gymnastics showing continuity of flow from move to move incorporated with both techniques and choreography. NOTE: Flips/twists greater than one rotation are prohibited.
BALLET – a routine
consisting of ballet technique and including classical steps and movements.
CONTEMPORARY – a routing consisting of contemporary technique including contemporary steps and movements.
HIP HOP - a
routine utilizing hip hop/funk technique and style. Routines may contain tricks where both feet
pass over the head simultaneously.
JAZZ – a routine
demonstrating jazz technique that may be incorporated with some up-tempo,
hip-hop, funk, locking or stomp.
LYRICAL – a routine demonstrating
lyrical technique and contemporary dance styles using balance, extension and
technique.
MODERN – a routine
consisting of modern dance technique including modern steps and movements.
MUSICAL THEATRE –
(Character) a routine in which character(s) are portrayed, such as Broadway,
movies, stereotypes, TV, etc. incorporated with dance technique and
choreography.
OPEN –
a routine demonstrating any dance style or combination of dance styles of the categories
listed.
POINTE – a routine consisting of pointe technique and
including classical steps and movements.
PRODUCTION
– a routine utilizing 20 or more contestants and demonstrating any dance style
or combination of dance styles.
SONG & DANCE – a routine utilizing live vocals and dance.
TAP – a routine consisting of tap technique and primarily tap work.
NOTE: For routines entered specifically in ballet, jazz, lyrical, pointe or tap categories, only 3 tumbling passes are permissible that include a maximum of 3 tricks where the feet pass over the head simultaneously. General lifts are permissible and do not count as a pass.
